A DRIVE FOR THE ADVENTUROUS

Catalina Hwy, Tucson AZ

I love mountains. Or perhaps I should say I love panoramic views. These are the Catalina Mts, on the northeast side of Tucson. This is the Catalina Hwy, the road up to Mt Lemmon where there is a winter ski slope and lodge. The city is at the very top of the photo – the flat valley. I was about half way up the 12,000 ft to the lodge and it took me about 45 min to get this far. There are lots of switchbacks with a few white knuckle curves. During winter months, only 4WD or tire chains are allowed. Some of the snowbird residents will make the drive on Christmas Day to open their presents in the snow, then drive back down to sit around their pool.
