BLAZING BARBERRY

crimson barberry

This has been a great fall for brilliant colors, especially those plants that turn red or yellow. These shrubs are are crimson barberries … the full size, not the dwarf variety. They can be pruned for a formal look or to control size. If left unpruned, as I’ve done here, they will grow to 4ft high with a width of around 5ft. They’re low maintenance and tolerate some dry weather, as we define dry here in Ohio. The red branches provide some color even when surrounded by snow.
