HAWKS TROLLING BIRDFEEDERS

Hawk in tree

Frequently hawks visit my yard – sometimes in the front and sometimes in the back. They’re hoping to snag a bird at the feeders or a chipmunk scampering around. I once noticed a large adult hawk eyeing Murphy. I assume it was trying to figure out if he’s a rabbit. I have a book listing hawks in the Midwest, but I can’t identify what type of hawk these two are. These photos were taken through windows since they fly away if I try to sneak outside. Their eyesight is too good!
